    Dear Zaira

I was so happy to get your letter! I can't wait to meet you in July! I'm sorry I haven't answered earlier but I was really busy with work.
So, my first day as a teacher was very very difficult.  It started well.  Headmistress Miss Enderby introduced me to the class, said everything I need to do.  She was very kind to me.  And the children seemed very educated and calm to me.  But as Miss Enderby left the classroom the  46 tongues which had  so unnaturally silent began to wag cheerfully.  I remembered the advice given us at college in just such a situation. "Stand quite still, be quite calm, and gradually the children will become conscious that you are waiting. Never , never attempt to shout them down." Well, I stood quietly and waited for the chattering to subside. But the noise grew in volume as conversations became more animated. Children ran around the class, shouted, two boys even started attacking each other. My presense meant nothing at all to them.  So, I advanced into action, I roared at them. But it worked!  They stopped talking and returned to their places.
What about you?  Did you find a job?  how was your first day?
   Write back soon!
       Lots of love.
          Milana.
